Corrèze has 5 villages classified “most beautiful villages of France” and also many lovely towns and villages, which you will find within an hours’ drive from Étangs de Taysse they will enchant you with charming allies and tower top views.

From July 1 to August 31, our village of Espagnac with its 370 inhabitants comes alive… Village societies organize a country dinner (repas) and small market every Saturday night in the church square ending with dancing in the street.
he famous “ham on a string” repas is held on the first and the last weekend of August, bringing together more than 500 guests in the church square to eat whole legs of ham which have been cooked all day over an open wood fire.
The season ends on the last weekend of August with fireworks and a dance on the Saturday night and a country antiques and flea market (brocante) in the village on Sunday.

This architectural jewel located in the green hills between chestnut and walnut trees, is a regular place for hiking, being a secondary stage on the road to Rocamadour & the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Corrèze (20min)

The town of Corrèze was an important staging post for Pilgrims on the route of Santiago de Compostela

The Corrèze River gave its name to this charming small town, as well as the Department. Ancient fortified city with slate roofs, it dates back to the 9th century. It has preserved the remains of its ramparts which underwent their last assault in the 16th century.

Curemonte (50min)

The three castles in this village situated on a rock outcrop, will fascinate lovers of history.

Curemonte retains a very rich heritage: three castles. three churches. six or seven “noble houses”. and a Hall, all bearing witness to its prestigious past. The ancient buildings are set amongst high-quality rural houses and have been able to preserve their authenticity.

Turenne (1h)

The topographic location and configuration of the landscape makes the mount of Turenne a virtually impregnable defensive site.

Bearing the name of the powerful Viscounts who ruled the Limousin, Périgord and Quercy for ten centuries, Turenne has kept many traces of its history: the Caesar & Treasure towers; remains of the Castle overlooking the village; some old mansions from the 15th to the 17th century adorned with towers or turrets; and simple houses roofed with Slates or Lauzes (local stone).

The town of Ségur le Château and its noble old houses dominated by the imposing ruins of the Castle, has earned classification to the “most beautiful Villages of France” due to it’s picturesque setting.

Gimel les cascades (13 min)

One of the most beautiful natural sites in Corrèze, located 12km North West of Tulle.

The Cascades comprise of three successive waterfalls of the river Montane, with a combined height of 143 metres : The “Grand Saut” (Big Leap) 45m. the Redole 38m. and The “Queue de Cheval” (Horses tail) 60m.

Argentat (35min)

A pretty town with roves tiled in Lauzes (stone), at the entry to the Dordogne Valley. Located on the borders of three regions, Limousin, Auvergne, and Midi-Pyrénées, Argentat took early advantage of its position to expand due to different trades. The first traces habitation in Argentat date back to the Gallo-Roman era, but a Gallic oppidum was built prior to this at Monceaux-Sur-Dordogne.

On the site of the former gravel pits of Argentat-sur-Dordogne, the Department of Corrèze has undertaken an ambitious project to restore biodiversity. Classified as a sensitive natural area, this departmental biodiversity reserve now offers an exceptional natural environment, rich in fauna and flora that it is essential to preserve.

Treignac sur Vézère (45 min)

Treignac is a town rich in historical heritage

On the sides of the Vézère. ocated at the foot of Monédières Mountains and on the banks of the Vézère, Treignac is a medieval city with bridges dating to the 13th century, and 15th century chapels, granary, tower and houses. It is also known for its white-water – used for the canoe-kayak World Championship.

Brive la Gaillarde (45 min)

Brive is a Commune in the South West of France, sub-prefecture of Correze.

Brive was the lowest bridging point of the Corrèze river, as evidenced by its Gallic name Briva (or Briua) “bridge”. The original primitive bridge was then replaced by a Roman bridge (bridge of the Bouy) constructed for a route from Lyon to Bordeaux via the Corrèze Valley. This route crossed a North-South axis linking Poitiers to Cahors. A modest village emerged, attested to by the remains of highly productive pottery workshops.

Tulle, Capital of Corrèze, has a pure and authentic soul

The heart of Tulle beats in the medieval quarter, a maze of alleys and staircases running between tall houses with wooden balconies. A few steps from the Cathedral, the Loyac House is an architectural masterpiece of the 16th century. Known for its lace, Tulle is also the capital of the accordion which is celebrated every year st the “Nuits de Nacre” festival (literally Nights of Mother of Pearl)

Aubazine (35min)

Located at the heart of a wooded hillscape overlooking the valley.

Aubazine is a high place of the monastic life in Corrèze and preserves buildings and vestiges of a great quality. Houses and shops are grouped around a shady square, near the old Cistercian abbey of the 12th century. to which the village owes its existence.

Meymac (50min)

With its sloping roofs of slate and granite stones, Meymac proudly displays mountain character.

At the gateway of the Millevaches plateau, Meymac is a place of picturesque alleys in the upper town around the Clock tower, and in the lower town around the old monastery.

Uzerche (35min)

The origin of this fortified city dates back to the dawn of time.

Uzerche was settled originally by the Gauls. In the 10th century, the monastery was all powerful and its Benedictine Abbey was a beacon. Often besieged, Uzerche has never been taken. Nowadays, the city bristling with towers, riddled with archways and decorated with old houses with their carved doors is a unique site., The amazing octagonal bell tower is characteristic of the Romanesque Limousin architecture.

Ussel (45min)

Located in the last foothills of the Millevaches Plateau, between Sarsonne and Diège, Ussel, city of Ventadour shows the medieval past of Corrèze.

Churches and houses of the 16th and 17th centuries. St. Martin”s Church has a choir and Romanesque chest dating to the 12th century. Chapel of the blue Penitents with the 18th century altarpiece of Paul Delimosin. 16th and 17th century houses. The residence of the Dukes of Ventadour. House of the Communalist Priests (17th century). Soubise Tower (14th – 15th centuries).
